Word Drawings pg1
In adition to the 'bag drawing' project, I designed a writen element to the project in which each student was asked to think of an object and provide five words describing its tactile qualities on a blank sheet of A1 paper. These descriptions were exchanged around the group and each student was asked to produce a drawing to illustrate the descriptive words. They were instructed to communicate these qualities as clearly as they could, without concern for the resultant visual aesthetic.
The images were rotated around the groups twice more. At each stage, students were asked to manipulate the images so that they represented the individual's particular interpretation of the written description. To ensure this could be achieved effectively students were told they could adapt any existing images by whatever means necessary, this may include erasing any existing marks and changing scale and perspective. The intention of this was to further remove the emphasis away from the visual outcome, allowing the drawings to be more expressive and representative to the individual's personal interpretation.
