Untitled 2
There is a definite difference between passive touch and active fingertip exploration. We have a constant stream of haptic information being gathered, most of which is filtered out and never enters our thoughts. We can tune into this information very easily, but understanding exactly what we are experiencing can be difficult to understand. 'Texture' perception is one of the more simple haptic processes. Texture can be experienced and understood without the need for a sophisticated technique: we only need to touch a surface to understand its texture.
This series of tactile pieces has been developed through material experimentation and exploration of the tactile aesthetic. They have been used as research tools throughout my investigation into the tactile sense.
