Abravanel suggested, in 1972, through video analysis of haptic movement, that from the age of four years "the young child has created a division of labour between eye and hand in which visual perception is given the major role for shape differentiation".

This statement indicates that tactile information merely plays a facilitory role when exploring a hand held object. This series of pieces has been designed to encapsulate this concept - the pieces communicate with a developed visual language though offer very little to the tactile sense other than to rotate the pieces for further visual regard.
